A Town of 1,300, a Full Church, and a Family That Showed Up

Carl Wimmer pastors First Baptist Church in Duchesne, Utah, a town of 1,300 people. Since 2021 the church has run standing-room services and baptized former Mormons and oil workers.

Then came this year. In January, Carl's 24-year-old son Julian died. Nine days later, another son was struck by a vehicle. Then Carl went into cardiac arrest.

His family of churches showed up. NAMB and the Utah-Idaho Baptists covered funeral and medical costs, replaced a vehicle, and are helping fund a $50,000 expansion so the church can keep making room. "I'm leaning into Jesus," Wimmer told NAMB. "Otherwise, I would be broken."

Iowa is full of towns the size of Duchesne. That is why we plant in them, and why we give cooperatively.
